Über den Autor Else Holmelund Minarik

Maurice Sendak wurde 1928 in Brooklyn geboren, im selben Jahr wie Micky Maus. Sein erster Job war als Zeichner fu?r Comicfilme. Statt danach wie geplant die Kunstakademie zu besuchen, wurde er Dekorateur im legendären Spielzeugladen FAO Schwartz an der New Yorker Fifth Avenue, wo eine Kinderbuchlektorin auf seine Zeichnungen aufmerksam wurde. Der Rest ist Geschichte, wurde aus Sendak doch einer der bedeutendsten Kinderbuchautoren und -illustratoren des 20. Jahrhunderts, den nicht nur Wo die wilden Kerle wohnen unsterblich gemacht hat. Sendak hat »der Phantasie von Millionen von Kindern Gestalt gegeben« (New York Times) und tut es u?ber seinen Tod hinaus. Er starb 2012.
