The topics of the essays by the director of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation Collection and professor of art history in Bremen range from Franz Wulfhagen's monumental painting of a minke whale in Bremen's City Hall, the relationship between architectural art and film, the representation of whales in general in films and the visual arts, and the early algorithmic film of the 1960s to reflections on the night. The volume appears as part of the research project La macchina nel giardino di Poseidone initiated together with Gundula Rakowitz at the Dipartimento di Culture del progetto of the Università Iuav di Venezia.ANDREAS KREUL (*1961, Bottrop) studied art history, comparative literature, and German studies at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He is director of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation Collection in Bremen and honorary professor of art history at the University of Bremen.
