»Preußische Jahrbücher (1858-1871) - A Liberal German Periodical between the New Era and the Foundation of the German Empire« For a long time, the Preußische Jahrbücher were one of the most influential periodicals in North-Eastern Germany. Despite their significance, only few studies analysed their agenda and impact on public opinion and the political sphere. Historians tended to interpret them as a supporting voice of Bismarck's illiberal and nationalist politics. This book illustrates, however, that the Preußische Jahrbücher were an independent journal of the liberal intelligentsia, campaigning for the enforcement of constitutional ideals and national unity.
