Karin Oehlmann describes the history of the conflicts that shaped church politics in Württemberg, which today are characterized by the presence of informal groups within the Church's General Assembly ("Landessynode"), and by the contrast between pietism and modern theology.The conflicts began after the Second World War and reached their peak in the dispute concerning the Kirchentag in Stuttgart in 1969. The explicit point of conflict was the concept of demythologization by Rudolf Bultmann and his students, but at the same time, these conflicts influenced the balance of power in the church of Württemberg.
