E. Precisely as the final element of the Hebrew names in question. Having furthermore shown the unten ability of the theory advanced by F riedich Delitzsch (wo Lag das Paradies pp. 162 sag.) which would make of Ya/z (and therefore Yahwe) a general Canaanitish deity, and the impossibility therefore of regarding the ending ia of Baby lonian names as the name of a deity'l have identified this afformative with the one pointed out by Barth in his 'n ominal bildungen in den Semitischen Sprachen' (pp. 388 - 89) as existing in the aramaic dialects and following up a suggestion made by Jäger, I have adduced examples of the afformative in Hebrew. Attention was also called to Hieronymus' treatise on 'hebrew Proper Names' (lagarde's Edition 'onomastica Sacra') in which many of the names ending in T!
